Blog 2.3

Hey guys! Welcome back to another week of wood working! I promised in the last blog that this week would be much better, so this weeks blog is going to be much more enjoyable to read. I called up Dave Phipps and he was actually quite excited to help me out. I mean I'm pretty sure he was more excited that he was going to be able to hang out with my dad but that's beside the point.

The first project I am going to do is to fix up my mom's old stool for her. Her great grandpa made it and she quite a few memories with it, so when I asked her if she wanted me to fix it up, she was really excited. I thought that sanding and staining a stool would maybe take an hour at most, but my time estimate skills must've been severely lacking because I was at the shop for about four hours. I didn't even get to staining it, but I still got a whole lot accomplished. That stool had so many little details that it was nearly impossible to sand it all down. At one point my watch even asked me if I was working out, so maybe my next genius hour I can learn how to get back in shape!

This was supposed to be the "before" picture, but I forgot to take one, so this is a picture after about five minutes of sanding the top. As you can tell, this stool needs a little love.

I used a couple different methods to sand including an electric sander as well as some hand sanding.

Occasionally father Shawn thought I was missing a few spots so he jumped in.

Here is what the stool looked like after I was done sanding. This weekend, I am going to hopefully get some stain on it and finish it up! I hope you all have a great week!

  1. Fantastic job this week Rachel! Happy to see you using relatives during your project! Do you feel comfortable yet with power tools or are more hand-orchestrated methods of wood working better for you? Keep up the good work!

  2. This sounds like a very fun keep it up!! I do have one question though, will you end of building a simple project by the end or keep on fixing up older crafts here and there?
